به مکالمه زیر توجه کنید:

Barbara: Is there any milk left?
Katherine: Yes, there is some in the bottle on the table.
Barbara: Would you like some milk?
Katherine: No, thank you. I don't think I'll drink any tonight. Could I have some water, please?
Barbara: Sure. There is some in the fridge.

Barbara: Do you know anybody who comes from China?
Katherine: Yes, I think there is someone who is Chinese in my English class.
Barbara: Great, could you ask him some questions for me?
Katherine: No problem. Is there anything special you want me to ask?
Barbara: No, I don't have anything in particular in mind. Maybe you could ask him some questions about life in China. Is that OK?
Katherine: I would be happy to do that for you.
 

به جدول زیر توجه کنید

Some	از some و any  در مورد اسم های قابل شمارش و غیر قابل شمارش استفاده می شود. Some را در جملات مثبت مورد استفاده قرار می دهیم. .Example: I have some friends.
Any	از any در جملات منفی و سؤالی استفاده می شود. این کلمه هم با اسم های قابل شمارش و هم با اسم های غیر قابل شمارش مورد استفاده قرار می گیرد. Example: Do you have any cheese? - He doesn't have any friends in Chicago.
استثناء	در جملات سؤالی زمانی از some استفاده می کنیم که بخواهیم چیزی را به کسی پیشنهاد کنیم. .Example: Would you like some bread? (تعارف) - Could I have some water? (درخواست)
Any	از any در جملات منفی و سؤالی استفاده می شود. این کلمه هم با اسم های قابل شمارش و هم با اسم های غیر قابل شمارش مورد استفاده قرار می گیرد. Example: Do you have any cheese?  - He doesn't have any friends in Chicago.
Somebody, Somewhere, Something	این کلمات را در جملات مثبت مورد استفاده قرار می دهیم. Example: He lives somewhere near here.
Anybody, Anywhere, Anything	از این کلمات در جملات سؤالی و منفی استفاده می کنیم. Example: Do you know anything about that boy?  - She doesn't have anywhere to go.

به کلماتی که در جای خالی قرار می گیرند، دقت کنید.

• Would you like ------------- something to drink?

• I have --------- some money in my wallet.

• Is there ----------- any juice in the fridge?

• He can't think of -------------- anything to do.

• I'd like to go ----------- somewhere hot for my vacation.

• Is there ---------------- anybody, anyone who plays tennis in your class?

• I'm afraid I don't have -------- any answers to life's problems.

• Could I have -------- some Coke?
